Can I use compost in place of soil? + -

Compost works best as an additive to soil, rather than a replacement. We've had best results using compost in the range of 30% - 40% of the total soil volume.

If you want to create your own soil mix, a popular mix is 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 horticultural grade vermiculite (coarse), and 1/3 "compost".

Peat moss is usually pretty easy to find at your local garden or home improvement store, but vermiculite can sometimes be difficult to find locally. Perlite will also work in place of the vermiculite, and is easier to find, but vermiculite will do a better job of aerating the soil & retaining moisture and is worth the extra effort to find it.

The "compost" portion should include as many sources of organic compost as possible. What you're looking for is a vast array of different foods for the plant so it can take what it needs to thrive. The Blue Ribbon Organics Compost is derived from a wide variety of sources but feel free to add other organic sources such as worm castings.

What is the pH of the compost? + -

Because the compost is made from recycled materials, the pH varies by batch. It ranges from 7.5 - 7.9, slightly alkaline. The food waste is a huge part of the value in this product, and tends to increase the pH

What are the ingredients? + -

The compost is made with recycled materials including brush, cut firewood, garden debris, grass clippings, leaves, sod, vegetable waste, and wood chips. Tested by a certified lab, the compost meets OMRI’s standards for use in organic production as well as parameters set by the US Composting Council’s Seal of Testing Assurance program. Blue Ribbon does not compost animal bedding or manure into this product.

Is the compost sterilized? + -

The compost naturally reaches a temperature of 150-160 degrees during the composting process, however there is not a sterilization process run on the product. In addition to the environmental damage caused by a sterilization process (chemicals, energy consumed to produce heat, etc), it would denature the beneficial microbes in the compost that make it work so well.

Can I get bulk pricing? + -

If you are looking for super sacks or skids of 50 bags or more, please contact us for a custom quote.

How much is "1-Yard" of product? + -

1 Yard is equivalent to 27 cubic feet. It can be visualized as a cube that is 3ft wide x 3ft deep x 3ft tall.

Can I ship using my carrier? + -

Yes, if ordering bulk quantities. Please contact us for a custom quote on the product.

Excellent Compost

I have been purchasing the Blue Ribbon compost for my garden beds for almost 2 years now and my harvests are phenomenal! I harvested 311 pounds of tomatoes last year and tons were over 1 pound. I credit this compost with helping me achieve my huge garden harvests. Well worth the money. It's like black gold. They are my go to company for compost especially that it is OMRI certified.

High quality compost

I've used several bags of Blue Ribbon compost. I've used it as a compost tea, top dress and soil additive. The compost is of high quality with no plastic, bark or other fillers. No gnats or other pests. It really seems to be well composted and the plants love it! Comparable to other costlier composts like Oly Mountain. Microscopic analysis of the compost teas brewed showed outstanding results. If you need a high quality compost, look no further.
