Considerations for selecting bacteria
Carrier
All bacteria are sold on some type of carrier. Common choices include salt, corn cobs, saw dust, wheat hulls, and similar products. If you are adding something into your pond, why not choose something that will enhance the efficacy of not only the bacteria but the pond in general? The special carrier used with Orb-3 Lake & Pond Dry Bacteria contains food stock & minerals that support the new bacteria as it colonizes in your water. The faster the bacteria can get established & start growing, the faster you will see results.
Count
How much bacteria are you really getting for your dollar? Since there is really no standard method for plating high count bacteria, many vendors do not even attempt to disclose how much bacteria you are actually buying; others may be using different methods which can make comparison difficult. Orb-3 Lake & Pond Dry Bacteria is highly concentrated - it contains 1 billion colony forming units (CFU) per gram of product (CFU/g).
Species

Dosing
Start with an initial dose of 2 tbsp. per 500 gallons of water; thereafter apply 1 tbsp. per 500 gallons.
Usage
Dilute each dose with a minimum of 1-gallon of pond water. Disperse product evenly over pond surface using a manual sprayer or trash/diaphragm pump.
For Best Results
Apply when ambient temperature is 50°–90° F; dissolved oxygen level is over 1.0ppm; pH is 6 – 8; alkalinity is less than 100ppm. More dilution upon application will enhance product performance.
Proper aeration is extremely important to maximize product performance.
Never commingle with bactericides or quaternary disinfectants as they will degrade/inactivate bacteria.

Dosing

- Alkaline Buffer: For each 0.6ppm of desired increase, dose 3 lbs. per acre foot.

Usage

Most pond owners recognize how important it is to have a thriving population of beneficial bacteria in the water. The beneficial bacteria continuously clean the water by consuming ammonia and other contaminants, leaving behind clear & inviting water.
What many people don't know is that they can boost the microbial performance dramatically by supplementing with enzymes.
Enzymes are quite different than bacteria. While bacteria are alive, enzymes are not - they are complex proteins that accelerate reactions that occur in nature. Bacteria exude enzymes during the process of consuming the wastes in your pond.
Orb-3 Enzymes are a cost-effective means of accelerating the waste reduction process in your pond & helping the bacteria that are already in your pond to do their job more efficiently.
Dosing
Initial dose is 4 ounces per 500-gallons of water; thereafter apply 2 ounces per 500-gallons of water every week. Do not over apply. For larger bodies of water use Orb-3 Lake & Pond Enzymes (SKU: Q749-000).
Usage
Dilute recommended dosage with a minimum of 1-gallon of pond water. Disperse product evenly over pond surface by pouring out of a bucket or preferably using a hand-held or mechanical sprayer.
For Best Results
Apply when ambient temperature is 50°–90° F; pH is 6 – 8; alkalinity <100ppm. Treat consistently using an automatic feed system such as a peristaltic pump if possible. More dilution upon application & consistent long-term use will enhance performance.
