Different culture species require different ideal environments. Optimum levels of alkalinity, pH, minimum oxygen levels, densities, feed quality and monitoring vary from species to species. Fish species require a unique set of parameters and so do penaeids. Hence, maintaining ideal water quality can be quite a challenge for any farmer, especially in high-density environments where excess waste is always present.
GLB recommends a daily walk-through of all ponds for visual checks and scheduled daily and weekly tests for various parameters, especially pH, ammonia, and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) levels. Many farms surprisingly do not pay much attention to DO levels, and for this reason, it is not surprising that a million-dollar farm may have sophisticated testing equipment, but no DO meters. For so many reasons, DO meters are one of the most important investments a farmer can have for his/her farm.
To maintain optimum water quality, control pH, reduce ammonia, and eliminate toxins and wastes, GLB suggests a minimum regimen as follows. For simpler reckoning, GLB recommends a feed-based calculation on product applications:
- Weekly application of PT100W enzyme to the pond water. Dosing is calculated as follows: Check the latest DAILY feed consumption. Based on that current ONE-DAY feed consumption, apply 1 liter of enzyme to the pond for every 80-150 kilos of fish feed that day, or in the case of shrimp, 1 liter for every 60-80 kilos of feed that day. Follow instructions on dilution as written on the product sheet.
- A weekly water treatment application of BE500 Probiotic at the same dosing as above. Best to apply BE500 Probiotic the day after the PT100W is applied.
- Enrichments of CE100 and TR200S as required.
