Eliminating stress and avoiding disease during culture is the primary objective to achieve profitability in any aquaculture project. There is no easy way nor an easy formula to minimize risks.
The July-August, 2002, issue of Aquaculture Magazine featured an excellent article titled Disease Management in Shrimp Culture Ponds by Henry Clifford and Harry Cook. Following is a short summary as it pertains to stress & disease management:
- Perform a visual inspection of the pond on a daily basis.
- Monitor feed consumption on a daily basis
- Sample for growth once a week.
- Sample to estimate the number of shrimp once a week.
- Monitor shrimp health and the appearance of disease using animals collected in the weekly growth and population samples
Practical procedures would also require faithful and consistent use of enzymes and probiotics, along with good management practices involving water disinfection, soil enrichment, biosecurity, sanitation, and nutrition.
Animals can largely fend off stress if water parameters are ideal and feed quality is at optimum. Great Lakes Bio Systems is a passionate advocate of enzyme-enrichment in feed. By adding digestive enzymes on to the feed, animals are able to increase nutritional uptake and improve feed performance and bioavailability. With the addition of our digestive enzymes, higher feed performance (digestion and absorption) can be expected from standard ingredients and even from substituted ingredients, allowing feed manufacturers to achieve a level standard of quality from batch to batch.
We suggest topdress formulations DE100F or DE201F, or miller-based formulations such as DE610F or DE701F, depending on the species of culture. Precise formulation can also be supplied to match the particular requirements of the species. Farmers may use the enzymes for top-dressing or we can work with feed manufacturers for inclusion of the enzymes during milling.
 | DE100F Topdress Digestive Enzyme enables White Shrimp to quickly neutralize and overcome systemic toxins and ingested waste matter. Such an action will contribute towards augmenting the animals’ capability for accelerated growth. | | Available in 20 Liter Pail, 32x20 L Pails, 60 Liter Drum, 7x60L Drums, 200 Liter Drum |
 | Topdress Immune Enzyme IE100F consist of active ingredients with known capabilities to enhance immune response in white shrimp and increases in the digestion of proteins, lipids, phosphorous and carbohydrates for increased absorption and the break down of organic wastes. | | Available in 20 Liter Pail, 32x20 L Pails, 60 Liter Drum, 7x60L Drums, 200 Liter Drum |
 | The addition of DE610F enzymes from Great Lakes Bio Systems into the feed milling processes enables the enhancement of standard feed ingredients, as well as the addition of non-standard or substituted ingredients to be fully integrated into the nutrition profile of targeted species. This increases feed enrichment efficiency, reduces labor costs and minimizes feed waste. | | Available in 20 Liter Pail, 32x20 L Pails, 60 Liter Drum, 7x60L Drums, 200 Liter Drum |
 | Great Lakes Bio Systems DE701F Miller Formula for Tiger Shrimp is a blend of particular proteins and enzymes designed for direct application into the raw mash during the milling process of shrimp feed. The direct application of enzymes suited to feed milling eliminates the need for top-dressing standard feed at the pond site. This in turn increases feed enrichment efficiency, reduces labor costs and minimizes feed waste. | | Available in 20 Liter Pail, 32x20 L Pails, 60 Liter Drum, 7x60L Drums, 200 Liter Drum |
