In a pool that is full of organic waste, the amount of free available chlorine will be reduced substantially. The chlorine that you add will be used up as it reacts with the Nitrogen and ammonia in the organic matter. Enzyme products break down the Nitrogen and ammonia instead of the chlorine thereby decreasing the amount of chlorine that is required to clean your pool.
In order to keep your pool clean, you need to have free available chlorine. Without enzymes, that means shocking your pool more frequently using much larger amounts of chlorine. Enzymes can reduce the amount of chlorine that you need in each shock treatment and keep your pool cleaner between shocks. You can have a cleaner swimming pool using less chlorine.
Enzyme Products -What You Need to Know
Enzyme products require very little extra effort on your part though you may have to change your treatment routine slightly. The reason being that you should not treat your pool with enzyme products immediately before or after shocking it with chlorine. Treating it is as simple as pouring a measured amount into your swimming pool at regular intervals and letting the enzymes do their job.
The great thing about enzymes is that they are fast acting and gentle. Once you start treating your pool water with enzymes, you will start to see and smell results relatively quickly. Your pool water will become clearer and you should start to notice a dramatic reduction in odor.
If you test your swimming pool after adding enzymes, you will most likely find that you have more free available chlorine in your water. You may even find that you have more free available chlorine in your water than is necessary. You can then scale back on your chlorine usage while you continue to treat your water regularly with enzymes. You will still need some chlorine for disinfecting purposes but with more free chlorine per dose, you will need a lesser amount.
